If you trade perpetuals, the funding rate is worth keeping an eye on. In simple terms, longs and shorts pay each other, usually settling about every eight hours. When the rate is positive, longs pay shorts; when it’s negative, the reverse happens.

$BTC The previous rate was around 0.0075%. On a notional position of 10,000 U, that’s less than one dollar every eight hours. $ETH Right now it’s slightly negative, so shorts are the ones paying a little.

It may not seem like much each time, but with high leverage, positions held overnight, or a position going against the market trend, it can eat into your funds over time. I always check it before opening a futures position—don’t just watch the price movement.
