$TRUMP Asian currencies mixed, yuan holds near four-year highs

Asian currencies traded mixed on Monday, as the Chinese yuan held near its highest level in more than four years, while the US dollar was broadly steady ahead of the start of the US midterm elections and a busy week of economic data.

The US Dollar Index rose 0.1% to 101.94, while USD/JPY rose 0.2% to 157.88, leaving the yen slightly weaker. EUR/USD rose 0.1% to 1.1169, nearing the 17-month low of 1.1159 touched earlier, while GBP/USD was nearly unchanged at 1.3386.

The euro remained under pressure after Fitch revised its outlook on France’s credit rating to negative from stable on Friday, citing deteriorating debt dynamics. Sterling also remained nearly steady at $1.3387 in early trading.
