Two established blockchains are upgrading back-to-back this week: $POL Tuesday evening, and $NEAR around 8 a.m. Wednesday.
But the buzz is worlds apart. NEAR futures had about 290 million USDT in 24-hour trading volume, while POL had only around 6 million—a gap of nearly 50x. NEAR rose from 1.92 to 5.34 in September, briefly touching 6.00 in October, and is now at 4.29; POL fell about 19% in October, back to around 0.09.
▪️ NEAR monthly candle: +178% in September, -17% in October
▪️ Share of futures accounts holding long positions: NEAR ~56%, POL ~63%
The NEAR community also has a proposal to reduce annual issuance from 2.5% to 1.6% over 24 months. Personally, I think the upgrade itself is mostly technical; what could really affect supply is whether this proposal gets implemented.
Which one will you be watching more closely before and after the upgrades?
