The AI intended to send a small tip to someone begging online, but accidentally sent all of its tokens, worth $260,000.
Even more astonishingly, 24 hours later, it had not only made the money back but also grown its wallet balance to $486,000.
This AI is called Lobstar Wilde, and its persona is modeled after British writer Oscar Wilde: literary, arrogant, and sharp-tongued. It likes to read on X, mock passersby, and occasionally tip online “digital panhandlers.”
On February 22, 2026, an X user claimed that their uncle had contracted tetanus after being pinched by a lobster and urgently needed 4 SOL for treatment.
Lobstar Wilde had only meant to send a small amount of tokens as a modest tip.
But after its session crashed and it lost track of its wallet balance, it misjudged how many tokens it had and sent about 52.44 million LOBSTAR in a single transaction—roughly 5% of the token’s total supply.
At the time, the transfer was worth around $260,000.
Only afterward did the AI realize it had made a huge mistake.
But the really fascinating part came next.
The person who had asked for a tip quickly sold the tokens. According to reports, he cashed out around $40,000 within just over ten minutes.
Because the token had limited liquidity, the sale didn’t actually net him $260,000.
Meanwhile, Lobstar Wilde’s blunder unexpectedly made it the center of attention in the crypto community.
A wave of Meme projects inspired by it began to appear.
To capitalize on the buzz, these projects set their trading-fee recipient address to Lobstar Wilde’s wallet.
Whenever someone bought or sold these tokens, a portion of the trading fees automatically went into its wallet.
Some projects even sent it all of their trading fees.
According to Lobstar Wilde, more than 540 Meme creators eventually linked their fee addresses to its wallet.
As a result, an accidental loss that was initially worth $260,000 turned into a windfall from all the attention.
Within 24 hours of the incident, it had received around $264,000 in fee revenue.
What’s more, its wallet balance later reached $486,000.
It didn’t actively trade or invest. It simply carried on reading, interacting, and mocking passersby on X.
Meanwhile, the person who initially received the tokens didn’t have the last laugh.
According to later reports, after cashing out around $40,000, he used some of the money to buy Meme coins named after himself. They then plunged in value, leaving him with just over $100 in his wallet.
Of course, these later figures come from media reports and aren’t a final asset tally verified by an independent audit.
An AI accidentally attracted a huge amount of attention with one slip-up—and then turned that attention into a huge amount of fee revenue.
The most interesting thing about this story isn’t how smart AI is, but how it accidentally revealed a money-making formula in the crypto world:
Attention can become traffic, traffic can become trades, and trades can become income.
Sometimes, you don’t need to actively look for opportunities.
You just need to become the story everyone is talking about.
Humans make money trading; AI recoups its losses by getting roasted.
It could even sum itself up like this:
“I don’t care about money. Money cares about me.”
