This morning I asked whether you’d withdraw your funds or leave them in place once withdrawals resumed. Looking back tonight, the market’s answer surprised me a little: nobody rushed for the exits.
According to Binance’s official update, the BTC network reopened shortly after 2 p.m. today. ETH, and ETH, BNB, USDT, and USDC on BSC followed after 3 p.m. By evening, withdrawals had reopened on seven networks, and about 95% of the stolen funds had been replenished. I’d worried that once the gates opened, people would rush to withdraw and trigger a sell-off. But $BTC just drifted between 77,300 and 78,100 all day. It’s now at 77,800, almost exactly where it was this morning 😅
Honestly, that makes me feel more reassured than a big green candle would.
The relative strength is pretty clear. $BNB was the steadiest of the major coins today, at around 712, up a little over 1% in 24 hours and back to where it was before the incident. $ETH 2 is hovering around 2,260, still grinding near the 120-day moving average at 2,256. This morning I said it had just climbed back above it; by tonight, it hadn’t gone far. SOL is on the weaker side, above 94, down more than 6% for the week. TRX keeps sliding, now at 0.31; the selling pressure from the laundering wave hasn’t let up. Lighter is still the standout on the gainers list, up nearly 20% again and hovering around 3.2.
The Fear & Greed Index has climbed from 30 to 34. We’re still in fear territory, just a little less afraid.
I’ve circled a few things on my calendar this week (Beijing time):
- Monday at 11 p.m.: U.S. ISM Manufacturing PMI. The time has shifted since daylight saving time ended.
- U.S. midterm elections on Tuesday. Results will probably start coming in during the day Wednesday, and some races could take a few days to call.
- Binance’s announced ZK proof of reserves, around November 3.
- Friday at 9:30 p.m.: nonfarm payrolls. The forecast is 65,000, compared with just 29,000 last month.
I’ve thought through both scenarios. To the upside, we’d need to see strong volume and a sustained move above the 79,000 area before I’d say the market has really recovered from this incident. To the downside, 76.3k was Saturday’s low; if that breaks, I’ll be watching the 120-day moving average near 74k. In between, I suspect we’ll probably keep grinding sideways and wait for Friday’s jobs report to give us a direction.
One quick reminder: withdrawals have only just resumed, so don’t click on any DMs about “claiming compensation” or “unfreezing assets.”
On the first day withdrawals reopened, did you actually try withdrawing some funds, or did you leave everything untouched?
This is just my personal recap, not investment advice. Markets are risky, so manage your own positions 🙏
