📌 Full-Day Review: Broke Above 78,000 This Afternoon, But Didn’t Hold
The upper level in the midday post was 78,000, and by the afternoon closing-price criteria, it was indeed breached: the 16:00 close was 78,194.2, or $194.2 above 78,000; the 17:00 close was 78,063.9, still above 78,000.
But breaking above doesn’t mean holding: the 18:00 close was 77,987.9, falling $12.1 below 78,000; the 19:00 close was 77,924.4, now $75.6 further below 78,000. Two candles above, then two back below—the market crossed the 78,000 hurdle this afternoon, then gave it back.
On the other hand, the morning’s hold level of 77,570.1 was never challenged in the afternoon: the lowest afternoon close was 77,849.6 at 13:00, still $279.5 above the hold level. The 20:00 candle is still in progress, with a high of 77,987.2, a low of 77,704, and the last price at 77,832.2; it doesn’t count as a trigger before the close.

📌 If I Were the Market Maker
Two afternoon closes above 78,000, followed by two back below, says more than “price never got there”: those pushing price higher took it past the level but couldn’t hold it into the close, leaving late buyers’ positions above 78,000; meanwhile, sellers didn’t press their advantage either, and price never returned to the area around 77,570.1 all day. So tonight, I won’t pick a direction for the market; I’ll wait for the close to speak: a fresh close above 78,000 would mean the contest is still on; a close below 77,570.1 would invalidate the morning’s hold.

📌 What to Watch Tonight: The Close Is What Counts
Invalidation levels (all based on 1H closes; wicks don’t count):
A 1H close back above 78,000 means the contest at 78,000 continues; then watch 78,207
A 1H close back below 77,570.1 invalidates the morning’s hold
A 1H close below 76,472 invalidates the 10-31 02:00 bottoming probe and recovery; then watch 76,260
The first key close is at 21:00 (the close of the 20:00 candle); don’t guess the direction while price chops in between, and a wick touching a level doesn’t count as a trigger.
