Two major developments in AI finance this weekend—the market is getting picky:

OpenAI struggles to raise funds
It originally planned to raise $30 billion at a valuation of about $1.4 trillion, but investors were willing to put up only around $11 billion—not even half that amount. The company has proactively lowered its fundraising target to about $20 billion and its valuation to $1.25 trillion. Concerns about massive AI capital spending are mounting.
Anthropic may face a “junk” rating
Its IPO filing disclosed nearly $900 billion in long-term commitments for servers, data centers, electricity, and other needs (mostly computing capacity purchases and lease obligations, not all debt already on the books). Firms such as Blackstone have warned that after going public, it may receive a rating in the BB range (below investment grade), potentially driving up its financing costs significantly.
AI infrastructure is burning through cash far faster than most people expected, and investors are becoming more selective. Is this cooling-off just a temporary fluctuation, or the start of a longer-term repricing?
