When I checked the gainers list this morning, my first thought was that the screenshot timestamp must be wrong. According to TokenPost’s figures as of 8 p.m. ET on Saturday, 52 of the 90 major coins were down (excluding stablecoins), and only 38 were up. Bitcoin was hovering around $77,500, up just a fraction of a percent, and the whole market looked pretty lifeless. But when I pulled up the rankings, the top two were looking livelier than ever.

Leading the pack was $LIT, the platform token of the decentralized exchange Lighter. This morning, snapshots from various sources put its price at around $3.10, with 24-hour gains in the 12% to 14% range. By market cap, it ranked 83rd based on data from CoinGecko cited by Bybit. Honestly, I looked around and couldn’t find any news that clearly explained the move. It’s up, and for now, the reason is a blank—better than making one up.

Right behind them is MORPHO, the token of lending protocol Morpho, trading around $2.36 and also up in the 12% to 14% range. Next is LayerZero’s ZRO, around $1.85, up a little over 8% to 9%. These coins have one thing in common: none of them are newcomers, and none are surging on the back of a single news story. It looks more like, after a big drop, investors are first picking the ones they like.

The losers are worth a look, too. TRON fell nearly 8% to around $0.30, the steepest drop among these 90 coins. MemeCore’s M fell nearly 6%, to around $0.90. With half the coins down while the top gainer is up more than 10%, this kind of market can really tempt you to jump in.

That temptation aside, one thing needs to be said upfront: a gainers list is a snapshot, not a recommendation. The numbers change as soon as the snapshot time changes, and the gains above are ranges taken from different platforms at different times.

What do you make of today’s list? Do you think investors are starting to pick and choose coins, or is this just a small bounce after a big drop?
