The first question an AI compute project should answer may not be “How many resources has the network connected?” but who pays the bill when the task is done. Are users buying compute time, or results delivered to their specifications? The former shows that someone needs computing power; the latter is closer to product demand. But in either case, we need to know whether payment and delivery are reliable, and whether customers will buy again. Without an identifiable payer and evidence of repeat purchases, industry hype cannot prove demand for a project.

Over the past 24 hours: $TAO -0.55%. Over the past 24 hours: $RENDER -4.00%. Over the past 24 hours: $FET -3.65%. These are changes in the respective spot prices—not orders, revenue, or compute utilization. Differences in price declines don’t show which network has weaker demand, nor can growth in a company’s AI business be taken as proof of demand for these tokens.

Product demand and compute supply and demand are two separate ledgers. To assess demand, ask who pays, what they get, and whether delivery meets requirements. To assess supply, ask whether resources can be matched to tasks and provided reliably at a cost buyers will accept. Successfully completing one task proves only that delivery was feasible that time. The available information does not specify the customers, revenue, utilization, or formal product progress for these three networks, so it is not yet possible to confirm which demand has been validated.

Network incentives are a third ledger: who funds the rewards, what service they correspond to, and whether providers will stay when rewards shrink. Rewards can attract resources, but they cannot pay the customer’s bill; having people provide compute does not mean anyone will keep buying it. No matter how lively network activity looks, stable orders still require evidence of payment and delivery.

Only then should we consider token value: Must services be paid for in the token? Where do the fees go? What practical function does the token serve? Even if people use an AI product, value does not automatically flow to its token. I’m interested in AI, but more than a project’s labels, I want to see an account I can verify: who paid, what they got, and whether they’ll buy again?
