Major Security Incident: Binance experienced a hacking (security) incident involving unauthorized asset withdrawals from a hot wallet. Based on the initial investigation, the attack allegedly originated from a compromised laptop belonging to a DevOps team employee, with no evidence of a private key leak.

Estimated Impact and Asset Recovery: The estimated total assets affected reached approximately US$ 6,3 billion. However, Binance and blockchain partners moved quickly to freeze and secure most of the funds on-chain.

Commitment to Reimburse User Funds (SAFU): Binance Co-CEO Richard Teng emphasized that all losses would be fully covered by the company using the user protection fund (SAFU), part of the futures insurance fund, and company cash, so users would not bear any financial loss. Binance confirmed that as of October 31, 2026, around 90% of the affected assets had been successfully recovered/restored.

Reopening Withdrawal Services: Binance has updated the Proof of Reserves snapshot and is scheduled to begin reopening withdrawal services for users gradually on Sunday, November 1, 2026, after the security verification process is complete.
