BTC nears $77,000 as the Fear Index hits rock bottom: This dollar-cost averaging plan is the only move I dare make right now

These days, every time I open the group chat, all I see are people lamenting.$BTC It has fallen to around $77,000, $ETH is struggling above $2,200, and $SOL has plunged below the $100 mark. The Fear and Greed Index has stayed in the “Fear” zone below 30 for several days in a row.

With the screen full of green, lots of people ask me: Is now the time to buy the dip?

My answer is always: Don’t try to “buy the dip”—use dollar-cost averaging instead.

Buying the dip means betting on hitting the perfect bottom, and one wrong move can leave you catching a falling knife. Dollar-cost averaging, on the other hand, buys you the average price over time. Even CZ has repeatedly stressed the simplest investment truth: ordinary people should put 1% to 10% of their income each month into only leading assets like BTC, ETH, and SOL, and never use leverage.

In this period of extreme fear and market doldrums, I’ve put together this most defensive DCA plan. You can scale the percentages and amounts to fit your available funds.

📊 Core asset DCA allocation (based on 1,000 U per month)

1. $BTC (BTC): The anchor, allocation 50% (500 U/month)

  • Current reference price: about $77,600

  • Purpose: The smoothest entry point for long-term institutional ETF flows. The current price is approaching the key 200-day moving average threshold (around $73,000), a crucial line in the sand for long-term investors. BTC is the steadiest choice for a core position.

2. $ETH (ETH): Recovery position, allocation 25% (250 U/month)

  • Current reference price: about $2,258

  • Purpose: The price has fallen to an extremely attractive level, but there’s no confirmation of a reversal yet. The key things to watch are when ETF flows turn positive and when the ETH/BTC exchange rate stops falling. DCA into spot ETH and treat it as building a core position.

3. $SOL (SOL): High upside potential, allocation 15% (150 U/month)

  • Current reference price: about $96–$100

  • Purpose: This cycle’s drop has been extremely deep. Once the broader market stabilizes, SOL could also deliver the strongest rebound. But high volatility means high risk, so keep your position size strictly in check.

4. Cash/USDT: Reserve ammunition, allocation 10% (100 U/month)

  • Purpose: Keep this on hand specifically to add to your position during extreme wick drops or when the Fear & Greed Index falls below 20.

🛡️ The “Iron Rules” of Dollar-Cost Averaging (More Important Than What You Buy)

Dollar-cost averaging works not because the market hands you profits, but because you stick to strict discipline:

  • First: Let the machine handle the trades. Don’t try to guess every day whether today is the bottom. Use Binance App’s “Recurring Buy” feature to set up automatic purchases every Monday (or on payday). Dollar-cost averaging is an exercise in breaking the habit of constantly watching the market.

  • Second: The steeper the drop, the more you buy. If BTC falls more than 8% in a single week, increase that week’s DCA amount by 50% (using the 10% cash reserve). If it rises, stick to the original amount—never chase the price.

  • Third: With DCA, there’s no “selling at a loss”—only position limits. As long as you have spare cash, keep buying. But if BTC reaches 40% of your total assets, for example, or SOL reaches 10%, pause purchases of that asset. Let profits run while managing your overall risk.

  • Fourth: Never touch leverage. DCA profits come from compounding over market cycles. With uncertainty around macro rate-hike expectations and the market swinging wildly, trading futures is just handing money to the whales.

⚠️ Risk and execution reminder:

There are still hawkish voices within the Fed calling for rate hikes, and macroeconomic pressure has not fully eased. If BTC decisively falls below the 200-day moving average (around $73,000) and ETF outflows continue, it means the bottom may not be in yet. Slow your DCA pace by half and wait two weeks before resuming. DCA is about trading time for opportunity—don’t fire all your bullets at once at this level.
