Binance’s emergency fund is really moving on-chain — 7,499 BTC moved in a single transfer.
Facts: On Oct 31, Binance completed a transfer of 7,499 BTC (about $581 million) from the SAFU emergency fund address to a single recipient address, and confirmed that “SAFU fund transfer is complete” (Cryptonomist, TokenPost, Oct 31; Arkham on-chain data via CryptoPanic records the confirmation at 10:51 ET). The recipient address is recorded as holding 7,500 BTC with no outgoing transactions. This transfer brings the recovery to about 90% of the roughly $6.3 billion stolen, up from about 80% previously.
My take: This is different from just making an announcement — anyone can see the funds move on the blockchain. But there’s a point worth acknowledging honestly: using SAFU means the safety net itself is being depleted until Binance replenishes it to around $1 billion, as promised. The remaining 10% consists of less liquid tokens that still need to be bought through the market/OTC, so the recovery isn’t 100% complete yet.
What I’m watching: whether withdrawals really reopen gradually today (Sunday, Nov 1), as targeted — that’s the real test, not the transfer. BTC itself is still around $77,500 this morning.
Do you think on-chain proof like this is enough to restore confidence, or will reopened withdrawals be the real proof?
This is my analysis, not financial advice — always DYOR.
