In the same 24-hour window, $ZEC slid from its high to its low, moving 7.4224%, yet closed at −0.1951%—almost back where it started. Over the same window, $DOGE had a 2.8986% range and closed at −1.3132% (the nearly 24 hours up to October 31, 11:00 UTC, Binance Spot).
These are two different metrics. The price change is calculated by subtracting the opening price from the latest price; everything that happens in between is left out. The range measures the distance between the high and the low, regardless of where the price ends up.
So “swung by more than seven points in a day but closed where it started” and “barely moved but closed in negative territory” can both be true—they answer different questions. When I review the records, I look at these two lines first, then go back and check the day’s news. Same window, same exchange—anyone can verify the numbers themselves.
Investing involves risk.
