【Follow Laojiu—Wealth Is Yours】Major TRM report: Cambodian casinos received $1.07 billion in crypto assets! A staggering 99.9% was USDT on TRON
The role of cryptocurrency in underground money flows in Southeast Asia has once again drawn attention!
On October 28, blockchain analytics firm TRM Labs published a report: From January 1 to September 7, 2026, 34 casino entities in Sihanoukville, Cambodia, received a total of approximately $1.07 billion in crypto assets. About $687 million went to casinos linked to networks sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury Department’s OFAC, accounting for 64% of the total.
📌 Three key figures are worth noting:
1️⃣ TRON and USDT accounted for virtually all the flow
The report found that 99.9% of the crypto funds were transferred as USDT on the TRON blockchain. The reasons are straightforward: relatively low transaction fees, ample liquidity, and widespread use of USDT across Southeast Asia.
This also shows that locally, USDT serves not only as a medium of exchange but is also used to settle casino funds and convert crypto assets into cash.
2️⃣ Casinos linked to sanctioned networks continued to receive funds
TRM found that three casino entities linked to sanctioned networks received more than $320 million even after the relevant sanctions took effect.
Between April 23 and September 7, entities associated with West Lake Casino received approximately $184 million, while entities associated with Huan Hai received approximately $129 million.
3️⃣ Cambodia’s crackdown has yet to cut off the flow of funds
From January to May 2026, casinos received an average of approximately $148 million in crypto inflows per month. By July and August, this had fallen to around $95 million, but the flow of funds had not stopped.
TRM also found that local casinos, pawnshops, and exchange counters continued to offer USDT-to-cash services. Some operators frequently changed wallet addresses, making them harder to trace.
