Knowledge Card: Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)
Ethereum contracts are usually written in Solidity or Vyper, compiled into bytecode, and then deployed on-chain, where the EVM executes the opcodes one by one.
The EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) is the runtime environment for executing Ethereum smart contracts. Every node executes the same contract code according to the same rules.
When using EVM-compatible chains, the addresses look the same, but be sure to check which chain your assets are on.
When calling a contract on Ethereum, the EVM charges Gas for every step it executes, paid with $ETH . Currently 2244.98.
