Let’s talk about the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM).
The EVM is a stack-based virtual machine. Each data unit (word) is 256 bits, and the maximum stack depth is 1024.
One thing that’s easy to overlook: the EVM charges Gas for each instruction. When a transaction runs out of Gas, it stops and reverts any state changes, so an infinite loop can’t get stuck running across the entire network.
Before interacting with a contract, check on a block explorer whether its source code has been verified. Be especially cautious with contracts whose source code isn’t public.
When calling a contract on Ethereum, the EVM charges Gas for each instruction it executes. Pay with $ETH . Current: 2244.3.
