31 up, 1 down, but $BTC is up just 0.87%: Is this more like rotation spreading, or has the market broadly turned stronger?

At 09:48 on October 31 (Shanghai time), publicly available Binance spot data showed BTC at 77,492 USDT, up 0.87% over the rolling 24 hours, with trading volume of approximately 1.522 billion USDT; ETH was up 2.28%, and SOL was up 3.40%. Among 32 qualifying assets—those trading normally, priced in USDT, with 24-hour trading volume of at least 10 million USDT, excluding stablecoins, fiat currencies, leveraged tokens, precious-metal-backed assets, tokenized traditional assets, and obviously anomalous assets—31 rose and 1 fell, with a median gain of 6.60%.

That is where the contradiction lies: market breadth is strong, but BTC has risen about 5.72 percentage points less than the sample median. In the latest complete 1-hour candle, BTC closed at 77,568.81, up from 77,368.76, on trading volume of approximately 36.32 million USDT—just 0.57 times the median of approximately 63.66 million across the previous 24 complete hours. In the latest complete 4-hour candle, it closed at 77,368.77, up from 76,942.57, on volume of approximately 104 million—just 0.38 times the median of approximately 272 million across the previous 12 candles. ETH's volume in the same complete 1-hour period was also only 0.38 times its median, while SOL's was about 0.89 times. Prices have recovered, but increased inflows into major coins have yet to confirm the move.

This market structure is best assessed by asking whether rotation is evolving into a broad-based recovery.

Bullish scenario: BTC first closes a complete 1-hour candle above 77,570 on rising volume, then breaks above and holds the rolling 24-hour high of 78,804 on a complete 4-hour candle. 4-hour volume would also need to return to around 272 million USDT or more, while the number of advancing assets remains in the majority. That would indicate that the strength in market breadth is starting to spread to core assets.

Bearish scenario: If altcoin gains continue to expand while BTC's complete hourly volume remains below approximately 63.66 million and its price repeatedly falls back below 77,271, that would suggest funds are still rotating among high-volatility assets. If a complete 4-hour candle closes below 76,626 on rising volume, followed by a break below the 24-hour low of 76,326, the recovery structure would weaken.

Counterevidence should also be kept in mind: 31 up and 1 down is not a false signal; it shows that risk appetite has indeed recovered from yesterday's broad decline. However, rolling 24-hour gains are affected by the starting point of the measurement window, the sample covers only highly liquid assets, and weekend liquidity may amplify rotation and false breakouts. If BTC holds above 78,804 on 4-hour volume exceeding approximately 272 million USDT, the view that “breadth is leading, but core assets have yet to confirm” no longer holds.

First, click on $BTC and check whether volume in the latest complete hourly candle has returned to above approximately 63.66 million USDT. Then watch whether 77,570 and 78,804 are confirmed by candle closes, in turn. Breadth has already offered a clue about the opportunity; price action and volume in core assets will determine whether it can develop into a more reliable market recovery.
