This is a general announcement. The products and services mentioned here may not be available in your region.

According to Binance's preliminary investigation, the security incident may be linked to a compromised DevOps engineer's laptop, which allowed the attacker to access a service container and submit unauthorized withdrawal transactions. We found no evidence that the wallet's private key was leaked. We will publish a detailed technical report on the investigation once it is complete and the facts have been fully verified.

Estimated total losses are approximately $6.3 billion. We are working with blockchain partners to freeze the affected assets, and approximately $3 billion has currently been frozen on-chain.

Binance will cover all losses using SAFU and company funds. User funds are safe. We will also publish an updated Proof of Reserves after remediation efforts are complete.

As an immediate precautionary measure, Binance:

  • temporarily suspended withdrawals while security checks are underway;

  • revoked authorization for the address in question;

  • engaged law enforcement and blockchain analytics partners to trace and recover the funds.

Our teams are working around the clock to resolve this issue safely and comprehensively. We are working closely with law enforcement to identify these criminals and bring them to justice.
