Military reinforcement on the Colombia–Venezuela border
In response to an escalation of violent incidents in the border area, Colombia’s Military Forces have deployed a contingent of at least 500 special forces personnel to Cúcuta. The measure follows President Abelardo De La Espriella’s order to militarize the capital of the Department of Norte de Santander to curb organized crime and regain territorial control along the border with Venezuela.
