Dear Binance users, Binance’s initial investigation indicates that the security incident may be linked to the compromise of a DevOps engineer’s laptop, which allowed the attacker to access a service container and carry out unauthorized withdrawal transactions. We found no evidence that the private wallet key was leaked. We will share a detailed technical report after the investigation is complete and the facts have been fully verified. The total impact is estimated at approximately USD 6.3 billion. We have worked with blockchain technology partners to freeze the affected assets, and approximately USD 3 billion has been frozen on-chain so far. Binance will cover all losses using funds from the SAFU fund and company funds. User funds are safe. We will also publish an updated proof of reserves once the remediation process is complete. As an immediate precaution, Binance has temporarily suspended withdrawals pending the completion of security checks, revoked authorization for the affected address, and contacted law enforcement agencies and blockchain intelligence partners to trace and recover the funds.
