An attacker moved about $6.36 billion out of Binance across ten blockchains, the biggest crypto theft ever. One wallet alone sent out 167,464 ETH and 1.615 billion USDT. Another released 780 million USDC. BTC, ETH and BNB all dipped on the news.
Who's behind it? Chainalysis and TRM both point to North Korea's Trader traitor group. Binance itself hasn't blamed anyone yet. Early findings point to an engineer's laptop as the way in.
Binance says it will cover all losses and that user funds are safe, while deposits and withdrawals are paused.
Big lesson for me: even the biggest exchange in the world can get hit. Don't keep everything in one place.
