Switzerland’s first spot Bitcoin ETF expected to trade in November: more access, but not immediate buying pressure

Binance Square’s current trending page shows `#SwitzerlandFirstSpotBitcoinETFExpectedToTradeInNovember`; at around 01:18 Beijing time on October 31, 2026, the page showed about 11 people discussing it. That is not especially high interest, but the event behind it is concrete: Swiss regulators have approved the first publicly available ETF that invests directly in Bitcoin, and the issuer expects it to begin trading on SIX in November. The exact date has not yet been announced.

First, the event itself. On October 20, the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) confirmed that it had approved a publicly traded exchange-traded fund that invests directly in Bitcoin, with particular emphasis on custody, operational risks, suitability in the sales process, and risk disclosures. The issuer, BIT Asset Management, subsequently announced the product ticker as `BBIT`, with a listing on SIX Swiss Exchange expected in November. The key point here is not simply that “Europe has another BTC product,” but that it uses a fund structure that directly holds Bitcoin and has received special treatment under Switzerland’s single-asset risk-diversification rules.

But there are still three steps between this and “funds have flowed into BTC”: First, the official trading date has not yet been determined. Second, access for overseas banks and brokers does not mean retail customers in every region will be able to buy it. Third, the ETF’s subscription size, market-making depth, and fees can only be assessed once the product actually launches. CoinDesk quoted SIX as saying that overseas institutions can access it, but approval for public sales is currently limited to Switzerland; other regions remain subject to local regulatory restrictions.

For BTC, this is more of a structural signal that “distribution access is expanding” than a catalyst to chase prices today. To check the BTC spot market, you can verify the official Binance page (BTC / USDT spot):

At around 01:18 Beijing time, BTC spot on Binance was about 77,274.04 USDT, down 4.600% over 24 hours, with quote-asset trading volume of about 2.624 billion USDT. The BTCUSDT USDⓈ-M perpetual was about 77,237.80 USDT, down 4.635% over 24 hours, with quote-asset trading volume of about 25.007 billion USDT. Perpetual open interest was about 95,315.861 BTC, and the latest funding rate was about +0.0100% per 8 hours. Spot and perpetual losses are similar, but perpetual trading volume is significantly higher, indicating that leveraged traders are still playing a major role in price discovery. ETF approval should not be interpreted directly as spot buying demand.

On the local BTCUSDT 4-hour chart, the price remains below MA35 at about 80,028, MA99 at about 81,235, and MA200 at about 82,588. The visible range is approximately 74,909–87,385, with the current price near the lower end of the range. The most recent completed 4-hour candle (20:00–24:00 Beijing time) closed at about 77,622, but the 00:00–04:00 candle has not yet closed, so an intraday red or green candle cannot confirm a trend reversal. My view is that the ETF event has increased the potential for medium-term capital inflows, but in the short term, we first need to see whether BTC can reclaim the 78,100–80,000 area and whether spot trading volume can improve consistently.

There are three verifiable conditions to watch next. The bullish scenario is that BBIT announces a clear listing date, trading on SIX proceeds smoothly, and observable assets under management and trading volume emerge in the first week, while BTC’s spot price closes back above 80,000. The bearish scenario is that the listing is delayed again, availability to overseas retail investors remains limited, or BTC breaks below around 76,600 while perpetual open interest continues to rise. The latter combination would look more like a leveraged squeeze than the ETF narrative playing out.

Risk disclosure: This article observes a regulatory event and publicly available market data, and does not constitute investment advice. ETF approval does not mean it has already been listed, let alone that it will necessarily attract net inflows; the specific date, fees, size, market-making arrangements, and regional availability may still change. Spot and USDⓈ-M perpetuals differ in trading hours, funding rates, leverage, liquidation, and settlement mechanisms. The market data in this article is an intraday snapshot from around 01:18 Beijing time; the 00:00–04:00 4-hour candle has not yet closed. The cover image is a local BTCUSDT 4-hour chart, included solely to observe price movements; the official long-form article interface only confirms support for a single cover image, so it should not be claimed that the chart is embedded in the body of the article.
