Knowledge Card: Transaction Finality
To overturn a finalized Ethereum block, an attacker would have at least one-third of their total staked ETH slashed.
Finality is the property that confirmed transactions or blocks can no longer be reversed or rewritten.
When receiving a large payment, wait for enough confirmations or for finality before releasing it—don’t rely solely on seeing “confirmed on-chain.”
On Ethereum, the $ETH staked ETH is the guarantee of finality: overturning a finalized block would mean losing a large amount of stake.
