📉 The KOSPI, South Korea’s stock market index, fell sharply, dropping below the 6,000-point mark. At the close, it stood at 5,730.74 points, down 3.48%. In other words, 6,000 does not refer to a dollar amount, but to the index level in points.
🤖 Why? In the United States, shares of Alphabet (Google’s parent company) fell sharply after revenue forecasts were missed and concerns grew about the returns on spending on artificial intelligence. These concerns spread to technology and chipmaker stocks.
💥 Shares of major chipmakers such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix also fell; as these companies carry significant weight in the index, this added to the pressure on the KOSPI.
