Came across an announcement from Standard Chartered-backed Anchorpoint Financial today: its HKD stablecoin, HKDAP, is exploring integration with the global payment networks of Mastercard and Visa, while also entering a strategic partnership with the Solana Foundation.

Key details: According to the company, it is the first licensed stablecoin in Asia to explore connecting to both major card network ecosystems. The initial pilot will focus on settlement for card issuers, with Mastercard’s Global Money Platform and BVNK mentioned. This is Solana’s first collaboration with the company; the plan is to mint and redeem HKDAP natively on Solana, supporting retail payments, tokenised-asset settlement, and more. The Solana Foundation has also joined its Tokenised Money Adoption Programme, following PwC. The CEO said the company is still evaluating support for Ethereum and Solana.

HKDAP is currently in an institutional beta and distributed through authorised distributors; no retail launch date has been set. This is a tangible step towards bringing Hong Kong-licensed HKD stablecoins to both card networks and public blockchains.
