Public blockchains are no longer competing solely on transaction fees. The question is now who can put fiat bank accounts directly into on-chain wallets.
【Integrating Fiat Banking Rails】
According to Cointelegraph, Polygon Labs has officially expanded its Open Money Stack service to the Solana network.
The system connects and integrates traditional bank accounts, crypto wallets, and global payout channels.
Previously, businesses building applications on Solana that wanted to offer fiat deposits or credit card payments had to find and integrate with financial institutions individually.
Now, through a single interface, they can enable fiat top-ups, embedded wallet creation, and cross-border payouts within their applications.
According to Token Terminal data, Solana processed approximately $5.76 trillion in stablecoin transfers between January 1 and October 27 this year, reflecting substantial demand for moving money.
Polygon CEO Marc Boiron said enterprise customers do not want to be forced to choose sides among public blockchains, nor do they want to integrate with banks repeatedly.
Solana Foundation Chief Product Officer Vibhu Norby also said that connecting banking rails can accelerate mainstream businesses' adoption of stablecoins.
Polygon previously acquired payments company Coinme, giving it 37 money transmitter licenses and 11 exemptions across 48 U.S. states. Cross-border payments platform Kira is now among its first customers.
【The Ripple Effect on Both Tokens】
The partnership affects both POL and SOL.
According to Binance spot market data, POL is currently trading at around $0.09, up 0.29% over 24 hours; SOL is around $96.67, down approximately 4.03% over 24 hours.
For Solana and SOL, funds have historically circulated mostly within the network, with few compliant fiat on- and off-ramps.
Connecting to banking rails across 48 U.S. states could help real-world businesses keep their revenues on Solana, driving up transaction counts and fee burns.
For Polygon and POL, the team has moved beyond the framework of scaling Ethereum alone, packaging compliant infrastructure as a cross-chain service.
If Polygon can collect transaction fees on rails handling Solana's massive stablecoin transfers, it would open up a new revenue stream beyond fees on the Polygon network.
【Metrics to Watch Going Forward】
There are two concrete metrics to track in assessing the impact.
The first is actual adoption by businesses. Investors can watch to see whether, in the first half of 2027, any consumer applications with millions of users besides Kira officially integrate the service.
The second is the share of overall transfers represented by fiat on- and off-ramps. Watch whether the number of genuine fiat on- and off-ramp transactions on Solana rises significantly. If most money flows still come from contracts and speculative trading, the compliant rails will have less impact on fundamentals.
The views above are personal and do not constitute investment advice.
