Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, reported that a security breach resulted in losses estimated at $6.3 billion. Analysts say this could turn out to be the largest cryptocurrency theft in history.
Binance said it had worked with partners to freeze the affected assets; so far, about $3 billion has been located. The exchange provided no information on the status of the remaining $3.3 billion.
Reports of a possible hack led to a decline in cryptocurrency prices. Bitcoin hit a six-week low, falling 3% to $76,469.82 in the latest trading, while ether dropped more than 3% to $2,185.83.
