Security Incident Update
Dear Binance community,
Binance’s preliminary investigation indicates that the security incident may be related to the compromise of a DevOps engineer’s laptop, which may have allowed an attacker to access a service container and submit unauthorized withdrawal transactions.
So far, we have found no evidence that private wallet keys were leaked. We will publish a detailed technical report on the incident once the investigation is complete and all information has been properly verified.
The estimated total financial impact is approximately US$ 6.3 billion. We are working with blockchain industry partners to freeze the affected assets, and so far, approximately US$ 3 billion have been frozen directly on the blockchain (on-chain).
Binance will cover all losses using funds from the SAFU fund and the company’s own resources. User funds are safe. We will also publish an update to our Proof of Reserves once the remedial measures are complete.
As an immediate preventive measure, Binance has:
- Temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals while security checks are carried out;
- Revoked authorization for the affected address;
- Contacted the relevant authorities and specialized blockchain intelligence partners to track and recover the funds.
Our teams are working around the clock to resolve the situation safely and thoroughly. We are also working directly with the authorities to identify those responsible for the attack and ensure they are held accountable under the law.
For updates, please refer exclusively to Binance’s official channels. If you have any questions, please contact Binance Customer Support.
Thank you for your trust and support.
