Let’s talk about maintenance margin and leverage tiers.
Initial margin is the margin required to open a position, roughly equal to the position’s notional value ÷ leverage.
Put simply, at the same leverage, larger positions are subject to higher maintenance margin rates, so the liquidation price will be closer to the entry price. Looking only at leverage can lead you to underestimate the risk of a large position.
