A thought just occurred to me:

If Binance manages to recover some of the stolen funds this time,
could the recovered funds be used to buy $BTC ?

For three reasons:

There’s been a lot of speculation online about this Binance hack. Here’s a rundown based on what’s been confirmed 👇

1. It wasn’t a vulnerability in Ethereum
The attack used EIP-7702, introduced in the Pectra upgrade. This standard allows ordinary wallets to run contract logic after authorizing it with a signature from their own private key. EIP-7702 was working as designed; the real weakness was in Binance’s signing process.

2. What’s the story with the “50 nonces”?
According to Blockaid, a single transaction contained 50 signed authorizations for consecutive nonces targeting Binance’s 14 hot wallet. The attacker didn’t actually know the exact nonce at the time—the hot wallet was constantly active. They guessed one correctly, and the delegation went through.

3. What does this tell us?
If they had the complete private key, there’d be no need to guess 50 times. A more reasonable interpretation is that they obtained a batch of pre-signed authorizations, not the private key itself. How those authorizations leaked hasn’t been publicly answered yet.

4. How the assets were swept
Within minutes of the authorizations taking effect, Binance 14 transferred assets according to the attacker’s contract: about 167,000 $ETH , 1.615 billion $USDT, plus more than 60 other tokens—basically everything was swept in one go.

5. Don’t take the $6.2 billion figure as definitive
The “binance-hacker” label on Arkham reflects the current holdings of related addresses; it doesn’t mean that the total stolen amount has been verified. The links between the attacker and $BTC or Tron-related funds haven’t been independently confirmed either.

6. A large portion has been frozen
Tether froze about 1.567 billion USDT, Circle about 823 million USDC, and Ripple about 200 million. That’s more than $2.5 billion the attacker can’t move. Aave also shut down the relevant lending markets to prevent stolen funds from being used as collateral to borrow.

7. What’s still out there
ETH, BTC, and about 730 million USDT remain unfrozen; the attacker has already swapped tokens on Uniswap.

Binance says user assets are safe. Withdrawals on some networks have been temporarily suspended as a precaution. The company has yet to provide a definitive cause or final loss figure.

If the figures are confirmed, this would be the largest hack in crypto history.
