First Digital, the issuer of the stablecoin FDUSD, has taken action by freezing the FDUSD stolen in the Binance attack, in an attempt to stop the hacker from moving the funds further.
According to reports, First Digital CEO Vincent Chok said the company is currently working with the Binance team and will share updates as soon as there is further progress.
🔍 Why is this freeze important?
FDUSD is a stablecoin managed by its issuer, unlike Bitcoin. Under certain conditions, the issuer can freeze tokens held at specific addresses.
Simply put, even if the hacker has already transferred the funds to their own wallet, the issuer may still be able to stop those assets from moving further, as long as the FDUSD remains under its control.
⚠️ But this does not mean all the stolen funds have been recovered.
The freeze applies to the FDUSD among the stolen funds; it does not mean that all other crypto assets have also been frozen or recovered.
📌 This incident once again highlights an important difference between stablecoins and decentralized assets: although stablecoins operate on a blockchain, their issuers may still retain the ability to freeze specific assets.
