😂 Even hackers get hacked!
Dutch anti-scam blogger Deeveeaaar claims to have hacked into the computers of a group of North Korean remote IT workers. When he turned on the webcams, the footage revealed young men wearing military uniforms.
North Korean hackers have long:
💻 Used AI to fake résumés and pose as job seekers
🌐 Used VPNs to hide their real locations
🏢 Infiltrated Western companies to gain access to work systems
💰 Stolen data and crypto assets to generate revenue for North Korea
In July this year, 11 countries, including the United States, Japan, and South Korea, jointly warned about North Korea’s IT worker scheme. Estimates suggest these activities brought Pyongyang around $800 million in revenue in 2024.
For the crypto industry, this is more than just a bizarre story. Remote hiring, identity verification, and internal access management can all become points of entry for attacks.
And the funniest detail of all: apparently, when the hacker opened the other person’s computer, there was even a game of Counter-Strike on the desktop? 🤪 Guess he was practicing his aim with the General! $BTC
