MoonPay’s PayBox has teamed up with Whop, with the official slogan “Conversation is the new checkout.” In plain English: ask Claude, ChatGPT, or Grok to find you a digital product under $20, and it’ll pull up a list of options from Whop’s marketplace. Give it the go-ahead, and you pay—crypto or card, either works.

I’m not knocking the product design. Always Ask makes you confirm every transaction; Autonomous lets you set a spending limit and then spend on its own. You still hold the keys, so that part is fairly restrained.

What gives me the ick is the vibe around it. PayBox’s official long-form post got around 19,000 views. Scroll down to the replies: “paybox mode,” “paybox always,” “let paybox cook,” “paybox keeps shipping,” “Only possible on Paybox” … each with anywhere from a few to a few dozen views, all cut from the same cloth. One account even replied several times in the same thread with “paybox mode” and “paybox made it possible.” That’s not community enthusiasm; that’s people checking in to turn in their homework.

Now look at what’s on the shelves: courses, templates, and other digital products on Whop. The first real-world use case for AI-agent shopping is having AI buy you a course. Think about that. Really think about it.

If you really want to try it, turn on Always Ask and keep the spending limit low. Don’t jump straight into Autonomous—AI won’t feel bad about spending your money.
