Eli Lilly and Merck both reported third-quarter results that beat expectations, with their share prices rising 6.6% and 5%, respectively. This is not simply good news for the pharmaceutical sector; it looks more like investors continuing to price in “earnings certainty” amid volatility: established leaders with earnings they can deliver and stable cash flows can still command a premium.

For crypto markets, this kind of movement is a reminder not to equate strength in U.S. stocks with a broad-based recovery in risk appetite. The current environment looks more like a rotation within the market than indiscriminate liquidity easing. Whether Bitcoin can rise further will still depend on dollar liquidity, real interest rates, and the persistence of ETF inflows. Sentiment driven solely by traditional corporate earnings is unlikely to provide a lasting catalyst.

In terms of positioning, rather than chasing news-driven spikes, it may be better to focus on the differences in momentum between earnings-driven assets and crypto assets. If defensive sectors continue to outperform, it usually means the market is still retaining a cautious stance.
