Polymarket has taken crypto short-term trading one step further: its U.S.-regulated platform has launched “5-minute up or down” contracts covering Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and XRP. The rules are simple: predict whether the price will close above or below its starting price after five minutes. Each correct prediction pays out $1; incorrect predictions are worth nothing. In essence, these contracts are similar to binary options.

With such a short time frame, short-term price movements are more like a game of chance. Although the barrier to entry is low, the risks are concentrated into just a few minutes. The platform is operated by QCX LLC and regulated by the CFTC, which is also reviewing whether it has complied with the terms of its 2022 settlement and customer protection arrangements.

Regulation does not guarantee profits. Ultra-short-term products test pricing, liquidity, and risk management. Ordinary users should keep their positions in check and avoid treating prediction markets like high-frequency cash machines.
