U.S. stock markets are closed on weekends, but tokenized U.S. stocks on-chain don’t have to be. Chainlink just filled that gap today 👀
Chainlink officially launched “Chainlink 24/7” at Link:NYC, providing around-the-clock pricing for RWAs such as stocks and commodities—with no interruptions on weekends or holidays.
1️⃣ Previously, 24/5 covered weekdays only (pre-market, regular hours, after-hours, and overnight trading), leaving a gap from 8 p.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Sunday Eastern Time
2️⃣ How are prices quoted when markets are closed? Prices are aggregated from several leading perp platforms, with stale data filtered out and outliers given less weight. The official announcement also makes clear: these are derivatives prices, not live prices from trades on closed exchanges
3️⃣ Two delivery paths: lending protocols read on-chain Data Feeds, while perps and prediction markets use low-latency Data Streams
4️⃣ The first partner is Aave: its institutional lending platform, Horizon, uses the service to price tokenized U.S. stock collateral, starting with high-volume U.S. stocks
My take:
Before, when on-chain lending involved U.S. stock collateral, platforms either paused over the weekend or had to make do with Friday’s closing price. Now that prices are available 24/7, borrowing and liquidations can continue, which really does improve capital efficiency.
But don’t focus only on the upside: weekend prices come from perps, and their depth is a different thing from real spot-market liquidity. If the market gaps when it opens on Monday, the liquidation threshold becomes a user’s blood-pressure line. If you’re using tokenized U.S. stocks as collateral, don’t let your weekend position run too close to the line.
I’m bullish on the move toward 24/7 U.S. stock markets. U.S. stocks are among the hardest assets to beat over the long term; this just frees trading from the clock in New York. The infrastructure for this RWA narrative, $LINK $AAVE , is already getting up and running.
