🏦 The European Central Bank stayed on hold tonight: the deposit rate is pinned at 2.50%, unchanged by even one basis point

Confirmed: in an October 29 announcement on the ECB website, the Governing Council decided to leave all three key interest rates unchanged.
The deposit rate is 2.50%, the main refinancing rate is 2.65%, and the marginal lending rate is 2.90% — all three were in line with expectations.
The announcement said: energy prices continue to rise, risks of higher inflation and weaker growth coexist, but core inflation is broadly stable and wages have shown no obvious response so far.

My view: this was a decision to “hold first, then watch the data” — not that they won’t raise rates, but that they dare not get ahead of themselves today.
The energy shock is not over, and financing conditions in France are tightening again; the “no preset rate path” language in the statement is leaving room for December.

What I’m doing: watching only, not chasing; focusing on how Lagarde talks about the French bond market and December at tonight’s 21:45 press conference.
If the press conference turns hawkish and bets on a December rate hike keep pushing higher, this “stay on hold” stance will need to be repriced; if they keep hedging, the market will probably continue moving sideways.

Two choices: do you think the ECB will hike in December, or stay on hold?
