Visa stablecoin settlement annualized run rate has surpassed $25 billion, up 10x year over year. But before rushing to declare a “stablecoin payments boom,” note that this figure measures the current settlement pace, not the total amount actually processed over the past year.
A year ago, the same metric was only about $2.5 billion, so the 10x growth started from a small base. Against Visa Direct’s full-year volume of $1.5 trillion, $25 billion accounts for only about 1.7%.
What’s really worth watching isn’t the absolute figure, but the direction: stablecoins are shifting from being “held on-chain in hopes of appreciation” to being “spent and used for settlement.” Stablecoin payments totaled $482 billion in the first nine months of 2026, while supply grew by just 0.4% and payment transactions rose by 71%—circulation is picking up. Visa’s $25 billion is one point on this curve, not the endpoint.
