The U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed) kept its benchmark interest rate at 3.75–4% per year, but the regulator’s cautious stance on inflation increased pressure on the crypto market.
The Fed left interest rates unchanged, as markets had expected. However, U.S. inflation remains above the 2% target, and Fed Chair Kevin Warsh said more data was needed before the next decision.
Two members of the Federal Open Market Committee — Lisa Cook and Beth Hammack — supported raising the rate by 0.25 percentage points.
Reuters noted that the US stock market’s gains slowed slightly following the Fed’s decision. Bitcoin also reacted calmly, holding at $81,000.
After Asian markets opened, the price of the top cryptocurrency fell to around $79,800. Samsung shares dropping by more than 5% added further pressure on risky assets. Despite the semiconductor division’s operating profit growing 15-fold, the tech giant’s financial results fell short of analysts’ expectations.
At the time of writing, digital gold had recovered to around $80,400.
