Well, I guess brothers really are there to sell you out. A 20-year-old Canadian had been impersonating customer service agents since he was 17, repeatedly calling people who owned cryptocurrency and telling them their wallets had been hacked. He’d ask them to hand over their wallet keys, then turn around and drain their crypto.

In March this year, he used this method to steal 185 bitcoins, worth $14.78 million at the time.

The very day he pulled it off, he messaged an accomplice saying he’d hit the big target of 185 bitcoins. A witness also said he screen-shared in a community chat to show others how to steal crypto.

After that, the guy started living extravagantly, constantly buying luxury cars, renting private jets, and partying at nightclubs.

Then, later that same month, he was sitting in the back of a Rolls-Royce Cullinan when police pulled the car over for speeding. The car also smelled of marijuana. Several friends riding with him were so scared when they encountered the police that they quickly ratted him out, saying all his money came from crypto theft and revealing everything about him.

Finally, a few days ago, a federal judge in Miami sentenced him to 25 months in prison. After serving his sentence, he will be deported to Canada.
