【Staying put backfires as BTC falls below $80K】

The Fed held rates steady at its October meeting, keeping them at 3.75%–4.00%. BTC initially surged to 81,700 on the news, only to give back all its gains, briefly falling below 80K and hitting a low of 79,605. Put simply, good news was priced in and turned into bad news: Warsh said the Fed would hold steady, but then stressed that inflation was still too high and rates could rise again in the future. Two voting members even argued that rates should have been raised by 25 basis points this time. The market was left scratching its head: are they dovish or hawkish?

Even more bizarre, the money flows are pulling in opposite directions: on October 28, U.S. spot BTC ETFs saw net inflows of around $137 million (Farside data), with IBIT alone accounting for $136 million—it was practically the only one holding the fort. Meanwhile, a whale transferred nearly $500 million worth of BTC to Coinbase Prime overnight. Institutions are buying, whales are moving their coins, and retail investors are just watching from the sidelines.

My take: $80K is the line dividing bulls and bears. The fact that a single ETF is carrying the inflows shows that buying support isn't all that solid, and when whales start moving, they’re never just doing it for fun. Chasing the rally at this level is basically paying someone else’s way. The direction still depends on whether inflation data cooperates. What do you think—can BTC hold $80K?
