The Fed stood pat, but struck a strongly hawkish tone: rates remain at 3.75%–4%, with a 10–2 vote. Cook and Hammack both argued for another 25-basis-point hike.

Powell’s successor, Warsh, bluntly said that “inflation is too high” and acknowledged that price stability has yet to be achieved. The probability of a rate hike in December immediately rose from 78.3% to 82.6% (CME FedWatch).

$BTC briefly surged back above 81,200 after the decision. The options market barely reacted, with Deribit DVOL staying around 37.6.

But the rally didn’t last the night: $BTC is now around 79,900 (24h -1.1%), while $ETH is around 2,310 (-1.8%), putting it back below 80,000.

Next up: tonight’s PCE report and Friday’s large options expiry.
