BlackRock has signed a memorandum of understanding with Japan’s SBI and Startale to explore connecting tokenized money market funds to the yen stablecoin JPYSC.

The announcement outlines three areas: technical infrastructure, business distribution, and regulatory and market matters. This is an exploratory partnership, not a product launch date.
JPYSC is a trust-based yen stablecoin, which SBI says is among Japan’s first. Media reports put the size of BlackRock’s existing tokenized money market fund, BUIDL, at around $2.17 billion. The partnership is also open to other institutions.

Outlook: A positive signal for institutional adoption of on-chain assets and the yen stablecoin narrative, but progress toward implementation remains to be seen.

Which do you think will gain traction first: “yen stablecoin use cases” or “tokenized money market fund integration”?
