It’s hard to talk about stablecoins lately without mentioning Ripple USD.
$RLUSD Its market cap has risen to around $2.6 billion, with 24-hour trading volume of about $270 million, while its price remains firmly near $1. Several fundamentals are driving this improvement:
First, it received final approval from the OCC to establish a federally regulated trust bank, further strengthening its regulatory standing. Second, it has connected with major financial platforms such as BNY Mellon and Robinhood, beginning to reach traditional capital. Third, its cross-border payments and corporate treasury use cases continue to expand. Fourth, it is gaining ground in DeFi ecosystems such as Aave V4, increasing its on-chain usage.
My take: Stablecoin competition has shifted from “who can issue one” to “who can access institutional channels and has real settlement demand.” RLUSD’s strengths are its regulatory approvals and traditional finance network, which support its market-cap growth in the short term. Over the medium to long term, the key will be whether on-chain retention and actual payment volumes can keep pace, rather than growth driven solely by exchange listings.
I’ll continue tracking its DeFi TVL and cross-border settlement data.
