PANews, October 28 — Bankless published an article discussing controversy over excess funding for Zcash development, noting that funding for the Zcash development grant program has continued to grow and is currently estimated at around $125 million in net assets, far exceeding current spending needs. Zcash co-founder and current head of Tachyon Sean Bowe has put forward a draft proposal recommending that the 8% of block rewards currently allocated to ZCG be discontinued in a future network upgrade.

The community has put forward four proposals concerning the development funding mechanism. They cover ending ZCG grants, eliminating the entire development fund allocation mechanism, or gradually reducing the allocation percentage to zero. Supporters argue that under the current mechanism, funds keep accumulating as the price of ZEC rises, while ZCG is not directly controlled by holders. Opponents worry that cutting development funding without an alternative could affect the protocol’s future development and maintenance. All proposals are still under discussion and have yet to be finalized.
