【Coinbase customer data exposed! Third-party service provider suffers security incident; platform stresses funds remain safe】

October 28 — Major U.S. cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase said that external data analytics provider Amplitude recently experienced a security incident, affecting the contact information of some Coinbase customers and renewing market concerns about data security at crypto finance platforms.

According to Coinbase, the incident occurred at a third-party service provider and did not involve a breach of Coinbase’s own trading systems. It affected the contact information of a small number of users. The platform said there is currently no evidence that customer assets were affected.

Although the incident did not directly involve cryptocurrency theft, the exposure of personal data may still increase the risk of fraud. Attackers could use the contact information they obtained to impersonate the exchange, send notifications, and trick users into providing their account passwords or wallet information.

As cryptocurrency platforms gradually expand their financial services, information security is no longer limited to blockchains and wallets. Data management by third-party suppliers is also becoming a key issue that exchanges must address.
