“Stripe launched free instant B2B transfers” isn’t October news. On April 29, Stripe said that through Stripe Treasury, these transfers were “free and instant for businesses in the US.” Businesses on Stripe were paying each other 4.8 million times a day back then.
What’s new in October is the Stripe Pay team: transfers to another business using its profile handle, with a mode for AI agents.
What I gathered from the documentation:
— currencies: USD, GBP, and USDC. The stablecoin is listed like any ordinary currency
— an agent can’t send money without a human saying “yes”
— Stripe itself tells agents not to assume a transfer is free upfront
In short, the headline promises more than the documentation itself says.
I’m watching to see what share of those 4.8 million daily transfers will eventually go to USDC. If it’s a significant share, the stablecoin will stop being “crypto” for businesses.
