Didn't see that coming! Robinhood plans to connect its 29 million app users to Ripple’s RLUSD and the XRP Ledger. That’s a major move—but for now, it’s still a “plan,” not a full rollout. The two companies announced an agreement on October 27. Robinhood expects to add RLUSD to its app later in 2026, while also planning to use the XRP Ledger to provide settlement services between financial institutions for Bitstamp’s institutional business.
However, the announcement didn’t specify exactly when RLUSD will go live in the app, or which countries or states will be eligible. The original announcement says those eligibility requirements will directly determine which Robinhood customers can access RLUSD. There’s also no launch date for institutional settlement, nor any estimate of the expected transaction volume—so how far the partnership will go remains uncertain.
This relationship isn’t starting from scratch. Bitstamp launched RLUSD on the Ethereum network on January 8, 2025, with trading pairs involving the euro, U.S. dollar, USDT, BTC, ETH, and XRP. The EU was excluded at the time, and not all trading pairs were available in every region. This agreement builds on existing exchange partnerships by adding access through the Robinhood app, institutional settlement on the XRP Ledger, and Robinhood’s integration with Ripple Treasury for cash management, liquidity, payments, risk management, and internal treasury netting.
Ripple Prime currently provides Bitstamp with lending and margin financing for around 20 digital assets, and gives institutional clients access to Bitstamp spot trading. Prime support for Bitstamp perpetual futures is planned for later in 2026. Impact assessment: neutral for the overall crypto market, as there are no rollout-scale or settlement figures yet; potentially bullish for expected adoption of the XRP Ledger ecosystem, but that’s speculation based on the plan—not evidence of realized inflows or a price signal.
Which are you more interested in: when Robinhood will make RLUSD available, or whether the XRP Ledger can first secure real institutional settlement volume?
