Sector data for the day showed a clear rotation: capital flowed into Meme and NFT, while the AI sector weakened on its own.
According to SoSoValue data for October 28, the Meme sector rose 3.78% over 24 hours, while the NFT sector gained 3.32%. The sector indices ssiMeme, ssiNFT, and ssiDeFi rose 3.04%, 2.77%, and 2.64%, respectively. Over the same period, PayFi gained 2.35%, DeFi rose 2.34%, and Layer1 climbed 1.30%, showing that market breadth was not confined to a single direction.
$PENGU is a noteworthy example within the NFT sector. SoSoValue data shows it gained 4.10% over 24 hours. In Finnhub's October 28 snapshot, its price was around $0.0078, up about 4.1% over 24 hours and 4.82% over five days, with a market capitalization of approximately $468 million. Notably, the same asset was still down about 22.36% over the past month, so the day's gains did not change its weakness on the monthly timeframe.
At the other end of the spectrum, the AI sector fell 6.69% over 24 hours. Akedo dropped 24.81%, while Quack AI, which had surged the previous day, pulled back 72.33%. This distribution of gains and losses suggests that the day's divergence was driven more by capital rotation within sectors than by a simultaneous rise in overall risk appetite.
My view is that the leadership of Meme and NFT should be considered against the monthly backdrop. A single day's sector gains are not yet enough to confirm a continuing trend. Going forward, it will be worth watching whether the sector indices can hold on to their gains for two consecutive trading days.
