🔥 Hardcore Crypto Basics: Bitcoin’s Total Supply and Halving
A halving reduces the number of new bitcoins issued with each block. It doesn’t reduce the coins that have already been mined.
When you see people citing the halving as a reason prices will rise, think a step further: there are few historical examples to draw on, and many other factors affect the market.
The issuance of new coins for $BTC is hard-coded into the protocol; no institution can arbitrarily increase the supply.
